The Labrador Retriever hits the top of the list year after year as the most popular dog breed, according to the American Kennel Club’s famous list. In fact, in 2017, the Labrador Retriever was on its 26th consecutive year as the number one dog breed of choice! The lab continues to win against other popular breeds like the German Shepherd and Golden Retriever for many reasons.
The Lab is the most versatile dog.
Labradors make wonderful companions for so many different lifestyles. A medium-sized dog, Labs typically weigh between 55-80 pounds and their fur coats can be a variety of colors like yellow, black, and even gorgeous chocolate.
The Lab’s personality is famous for being friendly, sociable, and easy-going.
Labrador Retrievers are enthusiastic athletes and will never turn down a game of fetch. (It’s true! It’s in their nature as a retriever. They can play forever, so the game can quite possibly become endless!) They love to be with their owner doing whatever the dog owner wants whether that’s going for a walk or sitting on the couch watching television. Because of their loyal companionship, Labradors are often service dogs and can be trained to help their owner do several tasks.
The Labrador is one of the more healthy breeds.
Labs are known to live a full life which is lucky for the many, many families who choose them as their loving companions. Labradors can live up to ten to fourteen years.
