At tails.com, we love big dogs (we actually love all dogs, but this one is for the big breeds). These faithful companions are full of things that make them totally unique – and their food is key to making sure they grow up happy and healthy.
So when your large breed puppy is growing, what should you feed them? We look at what makes the best dog food for large breed puppies.
Fuel for growth
A larger breed puppy has a lot of growing to do, and so once your dog is weaned and onto solid food, what’s the best way to ensure that they grow up big and strong?
Vets recommend starting off with a specially made puppy food – ours is perfect for any dog from 6 weeks. It’s full of high quality proteins, prebiotics and plenty of vitamins and minerals too. This is especially important for larger breeds as they grow a lot faster (and bigger!) than smaller dogs.
How big should my puppy’s food be?
For any puppy, the kibble needs to be big enough for them to chew and digest it properly – for bigger dogs, they usually prefer a bigger kibble. After all, a mouthful for a Jack Russell will barely be a nibble for an Irish Wolfhound.
