What is CBD & Does It Make Pets Feel High?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 120+ naturally occurring phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant.
Hemp definitely isn’t marijuana, though! Even though they both come from Cannabis sativa L., the difference between them is the amount of a substance called THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol).
THC is the intoxicating substance in marijuana. So, the big difference is that hemp contains no more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis. On the flip side, any plant with more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis is considered marijuana.
CBD products must always be formulated and regulated to contain less than 0.3% THC. So, even though hemp comes from the Cannabis sativa family, its composition in CBD-based supplements will not get pets high.
What Makes CBD So Special?
Humans and dogs have something called an Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that’s made up of receptors on cell membranes that may regulate several processes in the body.
The ECS has cannabinoid receptors, and CBD binds with those receptors and may help act on those processes.
