4 Dog Breeds Loved by Royals

Our fascination with finding the perfect companion goes back many centuries. The royal family are no different from any other family when it comes to loving and caring for a beloved pet. They do have their favourites, just like any pet parent, and have a preference for certain breeds. The following are the four favourite breeds loved by royals.

Corgis are without a doubt Queen Elizabeth II’s most celebrated and popular breed of dog she is known to love. It is said she has owned over 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis during her reign.

Corgis are a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. The name “corgi” is derived from the Welsh words “cor” and “ci”, meaning “dwarf” and “dog”.

Two separate breeds are recognised: the  Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. There are physical differences between the two different breeds. According to the breed standards, overall the Cardigan is larger, both in weight and height.
