4 Homemade Dog Treat Recipes

Imagine: You wake up every morning and eat a large meal. Then, you eat the same exact meal for dinner. Then, you have the same meal the next morning. Then, the same for dinner. So on and so on and so on.

Sounds boring, right? But, somehow, our dogs are totally fine with it. If anything, they seem to love it! They know the sound of their food crate being opened, and they come running ready to be fed, tail wagging as they (im)patiently wait.

But they must want some variety, right? That’s where dog chews and treats come in. Given throughout the day, they can keep your dog on their toes, all while giving them something tasty to chew on.

So make it special and make them a homemade treat. Not sure where to start? Here are some of our favorite homemade dog treat recipes.

1. Stuffed shin bones by Best Bully Sticks

Dogs love dog bones. Our hollow white dog bones are perfect for every dog, whether they’re an older puppy or a senior. Long-lasting and five to six inches in length, the hollow bones are natural chews that shine when an additional ingredient is added.

But what’s the perfect filling? Here’s our favorite stuffed dog bone recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 empty shin bone
  • 2 turkey slices
  • ⅛ c. dog food
  • ⅛ c. diced carrots
  • ⅛ c. peas
  • ⅛ c. diced hot dogs
  • ⅛ c. cooked, shredded chicken

Steps:

  1. Enclose one end of the hollow shin bone with a slice of turkey.
  2. Fill and pack the shin bone with the remaining ingredients.
  3. Close the other end of the shin bone with the remaining slice of turkey so inner ingredients don’t fall out.
  4. Give to your dog or freeze first – to make the treat last even longer.
