CBD for Pets: What You Should Know

If you’re one of those pet parents that always look for new and exciting ways to support your fur-baby, is CBD peaking your interest?

Whether it’s Hemp vs. CBD, best CBD products to try, or CBD dosage for dogs, we’re sure you have lots of questions about how CBD can keep your bestie feeling Zesty.

That’s why we brought on Dr. Lindsay Butzer, DVM and spokesperson at Zesty Paws®, to talk about CBD and how our new Hemp Elements Plus™ products can help your pet.

Let’s get started!

What is CBD & Does It Make Pets Feel High?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 120+ naturally occurring phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant.

Hemp is NOT marijuana,” stated Dr. Lindsay Butzer. “While they both come from the same green, leafy plant: Cannabis sativa L., the difference is the amount of a substance called THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is the intoxicating substance in marijuana.”

The big difference is that hemp contains no more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis. On the flip side, any plant with more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis is considered marijuana.

“CBD products must always be formulated and regulated to contain less than 0.3% THC. So, even though hemp comes from the Cannabis sativa family, its composition in CBD-based supplements will not get pets high,” said Dr. Butzer.
