Our top ten favorite movies about pets

Did someone say… movie night?? We’ve been craving a serious movie marathon & cuddle sesh with the pups while downing some popcorn and M&M’s in the comfort of our own home. Because we figured your friends at FurHaven might not be the only ones feeling this way, we’ve put together a list of our favorite movies. But there’s a twist… these films star PETS!

“The Secret Life of Pets” (2016)

The quiet life of a terrier named Max is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes. (PG)

This animated film is so lighthearted, sweet, and FUNNY! Your heart will explode exploring the friendships of all these furry companions.

“Marley & Me” (2008)

A family learns important life lessons from their adorable, but naughty and neurotic dog. (PG)

Although this film is rated PG, the themes in it are definitely a bit mature and for a more adult audience. If you’re in the mood for your heart strings to tug and shed a few (or a lot) of tears… press play & get your tissues out. Seriously… you’ll need them.

“A Dog’s Purpose” (2017)

A dog looks to discover his purpose in life over the course of several lifetimes and owners. (PG)

Narrated by the star pup of the movie, this film exploring purpose throughout a dog’s life will have your insides feeling all warm.

“Lady and the Tramp” (2019)

The romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt. (PG)

It’s no secret that Lady & The Tramp is a classic, but have you seen the new one?? It’s definitely worth the watch! Or if you want to be nostalgic, you can always stick to the original. We love both!

“Because of Winn-Dixie” (2005)

A mischievous dog befriends a lonely young girl in a new town and helps her make new friends. (PG)

Who doesn’t love a story about a finding an unlikely best friend? Not only is this film sweet and teaches life lessons, it’s pretty relatable to us pet owners.

“Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” (1993)

Three pets escape from a California ranch to find their owners in San Francisco. (G)

Every pair of pups needs a sassy cat in their squad! The whole family will fall in love with this adventurous trio of friends. Needless to say, it’s another timeless classic.

“Hachi: A Dog’s Tail” (2009)

A college professor bonds with an abandoned dog he takes into his home. (G)

There are many reasons this is such a beautiful movie, but perhaps the main reason is that it’s based on a true story. Japan, the home of Hachiko, honors this pup as a national hero and even has a statue dedicated to him. To understand why, well… you’ll just have to watch. As heartwarming as it is, you’ll definitely need a stash of tissues.
