History of the Miniature Bull Terrier
The Miniature Bull Terrier originated in the 19th century when Bulldogs were mixed with the English Bulldog. In 1830, the gamekeeper of a game preserves purchased a dog, which was to become the model for the Bull and Terrier. The game keeper believed that the Bulldogs would revert to the original breed as they were originally bred for fighting.
It is thought that the dog that he purchased was the model for the Miniature Bull Terrier. In 1860, the dog was finally accepted into the standard by the English Kennel Club. It was decided that the dog should weigh from 12 to 16 pounds and stand 10 inches tall at the withers.
The dog was officially recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1974.
