The Dalai Lama sent some of his dogs as gifts to some American noblemen.  The Lhasa Apso was close in popularity to the English Poodle by the 1970’s. . The Lhasa Apso is a stay-at-home dog and a sight hound. It is very alert and watchful and has a strong tendency to sulk if it finds itself in a situation where it is without attention. It is not well suited for being around other dogs that are active as they tend to become overprotective and jealous of other dogs that make up the pack.
